The Second Coming
Movie Trailer: Superman Returns
Here's the storyline from the movie website:
Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel comes back to Earth in the epic action-adventure Superman Returns, a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world's most beloved superheroes. While an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all, Superman faces the heartbreaking realization that the woman he loves, Lois Lane, has moved on with her life. Or has she? Superman's bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.
Especially after watching the trailer it's hard to miss the attempt to paint Superman as a metaphor for Christ. Does the movie have something to say to the Church or is this just an attempt to court Christian movie-goers like the Chronicles of Narnia has?

Hi Greg.
I'm from Brazil and I subscribe to the Miami Church podcast. Great stuff by the way.
So, on your last post, I'm interested on what you have to say about "attempt to court Christian movie-goers" with the Chronicles of Narnia upcoming movie. Since in Brazil the books are not very much associated to Christians, publicity on the movie hasn't taken that direction. What has it been like in the US?
Keep the faith!

With Narnia it's a seperate campaign directly to churches. I've gotten magaines, postcards and emails all describing how to use the movie as an outreach for our church. It's very similar to church marketing effort that went on with The Passion.
I haven't seen anything like that with the new Superman movie. But the trailer just makes me wonder if they are trying to go after the same market.
