"Lighthouses are more helpful than churches."
~ Ben Franklin

Some would say that a church is a lighthouse.

Apparently, Ben Franklin didn't see churches in his time as being helpful in a real way. But don't think poorly of Ben. This is the same man who also said, "The moral and religious system which Jesus Christ transmitted to us is the best the world has ever seen, or can see." How could a man who held the teachings of Jesus in such high regard seem to disregard the Christian church?

Is the church a lighthouse? Does its light extend to the horizon in every direction? Is it's steeple a beacon for the lost? If not, then was it ever? And if so, then how do we get it back? Why did we allow churches become a social clubs instead of God's messengers of hope and healing?

I'm with Ben. Let the Church build more soup kitchens than sanctuaries.
