Pardon me...

...while I post a few links to the web site of a certain Baptist Church in Concord, NC. I've been working on it a little bit lately. I finally got the Christian Sermon Podcast working. Now we're trying to get the online Bible study going too.

I realize that this looks like pretty shameless self-promotion but I promise that there is a good reason for this post. Perhaps I will elaborate on it later. For now, feel free to check out Miami Baptist Church online. You may even find an interesting picture of Reverend Chris Hawks in the gallery section. We're located very near to Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina so feel free to drop in any Sunday morning.

Disney's Big Summer Movie!

Summer and Thanksgiving are usually the times that big animated movies come out from Disney so let's look at the lineup and see if we can figure out but the big hit is going to be.

Will it be another co-production with Pixar? No, thier next film "Cars" isn't due for release until June 9th, 2006. How about "Chicken Little?" Nope, that's due out for Thanksgiving. The movie "Valiant" came out of nowhere from the producers of Shrek. But, it's due for August which is a little late for a Summer blockbuster. There are some big live action flicks in the pipeline. "Narnia" is due in December and Herbie: Fully Loaded is slated for June. Both great but where's the big Summer animated picture?

How about this?

Howl's Moving Castle

Traditional hand-drawn animation from director Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli. The last Disney backed theatrical release from Miyazaki was "Spirited Away" and it was outstanding. His previous films like Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke and Castle in the Sky have been wildly imaginative and visually stunning. Moving Castle may not pull in the kind of money that a summer hit like "Revenge of the Sith" will but, for me anyway, I'm just as anxious to see it.

Palau: The Final Analysis

How dissappointed are you in Ian?

Here's a player who showed so much promise. He was a dolphin trainer so you know he's a good swimmer. He was an all-around, all-american, good guy. It seemed like he was playing pretty smart too. That is, right up until he took Tom on the overnight reward. NOOOOOOOO!

It was all downhill from there.

The next thing you know Girl Power is on the march and Ian looks to be the next boot. But he makes a deal and gets to next round only to have his deal outed. Instead of giving the obvious defense, "I had no choice, Tom, they were going VOTE ME OUT!" he disolves into gelatenous mess of a man. Then, when you think Ian is coming back, and he's going to play the underdog and beat the immunity master Tom after 12 hours on that pole he... trades a million dollars for Tom's "respect."

It's enough to make a Survivor fan want to switch over to "The Bachelor."

Final Fantasy League Update:
1) Greg
2) Carol Anne
3) Debbie
4) Angel
5) Chris
6) Lindsey
7) Darryl

The Fantasy League Season went like this: Darryl got out to a lucky lead in the first round but quickly lost interest when his rank started dropping in the second week. Likewise, Chris started strong and faltered mid-season. Once he fell down below me he seemed to give up. Lindsey put her picks in before the first show and just let them ride all season long. Debbie went to number one in the second week and held the top spot until the last three weeks. After that she fell victim to the unrelenting forward press of Greg and Carol Anne. Carol Anne and I fought back from low rankings early to claim the top two spots late in the season and went into the final episode with just 17 points between us. When the dust finally settled I was champion once again with a solid 108 point lead. I ended up number 3 on my public tribe and more than 300 points out of the overall top 100 leaderboard.

Oh, Angel played a hard game too and made some good moves this season. I'm very proud that my 8-year old beat my church pastor. I'll make sure that she never lets him forget it. Lindsey is a good player too (she even beat me a couple of seasons ago) but she was student teaching so she didn't have the time bring her "A" game to the Fantasy League. Still she picked two of the final four survivors AND the winner.

This season was a lot of fun. I know Carol Ann plays a tough game and I fear Debbie next season now that she knows where the spoilers are and how to use them. Look for your invite in September ladies!
